These parents work so hard. Dad has a thriving tutoring company and literally wrote the books about preparing to take the SAT, ACT, and PSAT. And mom just got her doctorate degree! Holy smokes!
They absolutely prioritize travel in their lives (they went to South Africa last year!), and have a vacation condo in Florida where they often spend their downtime.
We have worked together since their oldest was a baby, and have floated around the idea of me photographing them in Florida more than once (documentary vacation photography is a favorite of mine). It finally happened this winter! Wahoo!
I truly loved every minute of it. The pool time…
the ten million pool toys…
their sweet in-between snuggle (that’s my husband in the background – they came on our golf cart because theirs was full of pool toys!).
We used this as their Day in the Life session, part of their Year in the Life. Best thing about Day in the Life sessions is that we get all those little in-between moments, too – the not-so-perfect ones like when they get in a fight (like ALL siblings do)…
and one takes a quick time-out to calm down.
But it’s all good because there’s ICE CREAM after!
Then some time at the beach.
We went to the dock and they ran into their friend Joanne, the Fishing Lady! They have gone on amazing fishing trips with her, and she was thrilled to see the kids. She showed them one of her catches for that day.
And then it was off to one of the few restaurants on the island, where the waitstaff knows them well and brought out shirley temples for the kids as soon as they sat down. I love this small-town vibe.
Their son showed me his awesome fencing skills, using the little cocktail cherry sword. Awesome.
And then little sis jumped in on the action.
It had been a long day full of fun, and they were kinda done for.
So we had some tv downtime. She’s holding up a shell so he can hear the ocean here!
And then it was time for bed. Braids had to be taken out…
and off to sleep.
The next morning, off to the beach! This guy has such a wonderfully wild imagination and great leadership skills. He had his mom and I both helping to bury shells in the sand that would grow into plants and fight off the zombies that were coming in the sea. At least I think that’s what we were doing…
And then, sadly, it was time for me to go. Little sister was sad, and so was I. I hope we get to do this again sometime!
These parents are doing a most amazing job raising these two little wonders. They even counseled me on this trip about my own kids and what I can do to help them (much appreciated!). They are in tune with their kids in the best ways, and do all that they can to help them succeed. I’m not sure these two know just how lucky they are, but I’ll bet their lives will unfold in wonderful ways!
I LOVE Day in the Life sessions. And I LOVE this family! Oh! And traveling! So this was truly a dream come true for me. I hope to do more documentary vacation photography in the future, and can hardly wait til my next session with them!
