When my oldest was nearly one year old, we packed up and moved out of our very first house and into our current house. We’ve lived here for a while now, and that house seems like a distant memory. But when I come across pictures like this one……I am immediately taken back there. That floor! That amazing 50’s floor. We called it the alligator back cafe. And it’s where Mina first practiced swinging from cabinet handles. I love seeing pictures back at our old place. It gets me all sentimental for a time in our lives when she was so little, and the only child. I remember the time I went to the kitchen for a minute and came back to find her missing. Turns out she had learned how to scoot and had scooted backward into a little nook right behind the tv. Just brings me right back.
So when this mama told me she was unsure if they should go ahead and do pictures now or wait a couple months until they’re in their new place, I threw out the idea of now so they could have pictures to remember their old place someday. This is where their baby was brought home from the hospital, where her parents first learned how to be parents, where she spent her first year of life, where she smiled and laughed for some of the first times, where she learned to roll over,
and where she learned to make these amazing faces!
This is where she learned to self-soothe. And I have never in my life seen a baby this age who can self-soothe so incredibly well. She would play and laugh, and then suddenly, plop her fingers in her mouth and her whole body would relax.
And she’s pretty strong! She was doing pilates hundreds all over the place! Good core workout, little one.
I was so super excited to see Katie and Mike as parents. They’re the kind of thoughtful, reasonable, kind people that you just know will raise a little wonder. And look! It’s their wedding picture on the wall! Their wedding was lovely, and I just feel so grateful to have witnessed that day along with this moment in time in their lives, getting ready to move into their new home, raising their precious little one.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Katie and Mike! Thank you for sharing some time with me, letting me meet your sweet little one, and just giving me a tiny glimpse of your new life together!
