You guys. My hard drive failed me. It didn’t even make it a year! What the what? It’s true.
I cried and I panicked. I took comfort knowing that all my client work was safe because I back that stuff up right away. But some pictures that were important to my business plus ALL MY PERSONAL PICTURES FROM 2016 (AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) were on that drive and had not yet been backed (because sometimes I make bad choices, including waiting until the end of the year to back up my personal pictures). Worse yet, I hadn’t yet put together our yearly album. I sent the hard drive off to a data recovery place, and after a week of a slightly upset stomach, they wrote to tell me it looked like it was all recoverable. Phew! And then I started weighing how and when I could pay the nearly $2000 to get it all back. I mean, OF COURSE it’s worth every single penny and way more, but what kind of a loan could I take out to make that happen? And then (AAAAHHHH!!!! – but this time like angels singing in chorus, not like the panicked agony), I remembered business insurance.
They covered it (AAAAHHHHH!!!!!! – but this time, like a deep sigh of relief), minus the deductible of course. And this week, I got my precious memories back on a shiny new hard drive. As I write this, February is being backed up on dropbox. Phew!
What better time to review the year with the annual “Best of” post? Here’s some of my favorites from 2016 – as usual, the rules were: only two pictures from each month, only my family can be in them, and none from vacations.
I love these people!!! So so much. Seeing pictures from the whole year all in one place makes me feel like I could burst a little. I am so incredibly grateful to have these pictures back! And so grateful for this little family full of spunk.
Love to you and your family as you carry on in 2017! And a little helpful advice after losing my year of family photography for a little bit: BACK UP YOUR PICTURES!!!
(Here’s our family in 2015, and here’s 2014. Every year, we make an album of the year. We look through these all the time! What do you do with your family pictures? If you’d like to make an album, don’t get worried about past years you’ve missed. Just start right now! I only have albums from 2013 and on. Someday I’ll get back to making those older ones from when they were little!)
